- Releases the hood latch mechanism that opens your vehicle’s hood
- Connects the hood release handle to the hood latch mechanism
- Replace if your hood release handle is stuck or is not working
Your Nissan's Hood Release Cable connects the hood release handle found in the cabin of your vehicle to the latch underneath the hood. When the hood release handle is pulled, it pulls on the Hood Release Cable and allows the hood latch to release or “pop” the hood.
If the Hood Release Cable is broken or missing, you likely won't be able to open the hood since the hood latch and the release handle in the cabin wouldn't be connected. Without a functioning Hood Release Cable, you likely would have to open the hood from the outside by methods not recommended by Nissan, as they could damage the hood latch and cause it to open while driving. Releasing the hood latch outside of using the hood release handle may leave the hood latch damaged or not functioning correctly, as well as the parts around the hood latch.
The Hood Release Cable on your vehicle may rust or wear out over time, which can cause it to get stuck or even break apart during use. The Hood Release Cable likely needs to be replaced if you don't feel the hood pop when you pull the hood release handle or if you feel the handle is more difficult to engage.
If your Hood Release Cable needs to be replaced, purchase a genuine replacement Hood Release Cable from Nissan Parts. Our replacement parts are custom-fitted, durability-tested, and designed to fit your Nissan model and year.
